Star Trek is one of the oldest sci-fi franchises that have a fan base ranging, in multiple generations.
Continuing the legacy for around 55 years, the franchise has released 13 movies that have kept movie enthusiasts waiting for new releases and a continuation of the Star Trek Universe.
The release order of the movies is (almost) the same as chronological order. So there is not much hassle when binging Star Trek movies in order.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture
The first movie in the Star Trek film series. The movie is set in the 2270s when a human discovers a very powerful and mysterious alien force making its way towards earth whilst destroying everything in its path.
Starship USS Enterprise under the command of Admiral James T. Kirk has the mission to save the planet against the aliens.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
The second installment to the Star Trek series, and the first movie of a three-film story arc, the story follows Admiral James T. Kirk and Starship USS Enterprise as they face a ruthless tyrant, Khan.
Who has escaped a 15 years of exile and is in pursuit of Genesis, a very powerful weapon, in order to take revenge against Admiral James Kirk.
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
After Spock’s death, USS Enterprise is decommissioned and is forced to return to earth.
But when Admiral James Kirk learns that Spock’s spirit is held in Dr. McCoy’s mind.
Admiral James Kirk along with his crew steals USS Enterprise so that they can return Spock’s body to his homeland, all the while dealing with hostile Klingons who want to steal Genesis.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
The fourth film in the installment and the last film in the three-film story arc, the story follows the event when havoc is wrecked on earth i.e. global power grid is disabled, planetary storm covers the earth blocking the sun entirely.
The events are initiated by an alien probe that is attempting to contact the humpback whales (that are now extinct).
The crew travels back in time to find whales and bring them back in the present time so that the probe’s call can be answered and catastrophe on earth can be reversed.
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
The story continues shortly after the 4th movie. Sybok, a Vulcan and Spock’s half brother tricks and coerces the USS Enterprise into helping him find god in the middle of the galaxy behind an impenetrable field known as the great barrier.
But soon they find the entity behind the great barrier not to be god but an imprisoned entity.
The crew must now ensure that the entity does not leave the great barrier while planning their escape.
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
This is the 6th installation in the film series and the last to feature the entire cast of the original series.
After the Klingon (a rival race) moon is destroyed, they try to initiate peaceful relations with the United Federation of Planets.
But a few radicals on both sides conspire to stop these peace negotiations from happening.
USS Enterprise along with the whole crew must act fast against these unknown conspirators and make sure that peace negotiations are successful.
Star Trek: Generations
It is the 7th movie in the Star Trek installation and the first in feature actors in a new lead role and storyline.
Tolian Soran is obsessed with Nexus, an energy ribbon that can transport one to an extra-dimensional realm where time has no meaning and is described as a blissful experience.
But in order to divert Nexus’ path, Soran is willing to destroy a star along with its planetary system.
Kirk must stop Soran from destroying the star and save millions of inhabitants from being killed.
Star Trek: First Contact
Cybernetic Borg has attacked the earth and the United Federation of Planets are losing the battle.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard disobeys his orders of patrolling and joins the fight which gives them an upper hand.
But in the last desperate attempt the Borgs send a small ship into a time vortex.
As the sphere disappears Enterprise learns that history has been tampered with and now Borgs inhabit the earth completely.
USS Enterprise must follow the Borg ship back in time and stop them from changing the past.
Star Trek: Insurrection
On a suspicion of losing his Lieutenant Commander android, Captain Picard discovers a conspiracy involving Federation and a species known as Son’a that are threatening Ba’ku, another species living in peace as they want to capture their planet for its rejuvenating properties.
The USS Enterprise crew must stop this and save the Ba’ku species and their planet.
Star Trek: Nemesis
It is the last movie in the storyline that featured the cast of Star Trek” The Next Generation.
Shinzon has taken control and is now the new head of the Romulan Star Empire in a coup d’etat. Enterprise is sent on a diplomatic mission to Romulus.
There they find that Shinzon is a clone of Captain Picard and possesses a weapon of mass destruction that he plans on using against the earth.
Captain Picard must defeat Shinzon and save planet earth.
Star Trek (Reboot)
The 11th film in the series and also the first movie in the reboot (featuring main characters played by a new cast) of original Star Trek.
Kirk and Spock along with USS Enterprise MUST STOP Nero, a Romulan from the future who threatens to destroy earth.
The story takes place in an alternate reality which is created when Nero and Spock (original cast from the future, time travel).
Star Trek Into Darkness
The 12th film and second edition to the rebooted storyline the events happening are different from the second film (Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan) of the franchise due to the alternate reality created in the preceding movie. A Starfleet member, John Harrison, turns against the Starfleet, killing senior officers and fleeing to Klingons. USS Enterprise with Kirk leading the team are sent to retrieve him.
Star Trek Beyond
Responding to a distress call for rescue, Enterprise is dispatched to a rescue mission. But they are ambushed by a tyrant Krail, who wants to recreate an ancient bioweapon and destroy the United Federation of Planets. Kirk with his crew must stop Krail from destroying the galactic peace.
