Warner Bros has planned to release its complete 2021 movie lineup on HBO Max and theaters at the same time in the United States. But you can watch all of these films in Canada. Want to know how? Keep reading this blog.
Initially, Warner Bros. planned it would premier only “Wonder Woman 1984” on Christmas. However, because of the pandemic, the company decided to release all of its upcoming films in 2021 to streaming service is happening for the first time in history. And the best part, HBO Max subscribers can watch all of these new releases without paying any additional amount. But keep in mind that all these movies will be available only for a month before leaving the service.
The new films by Warner Bros. includes The Matrix 4, The Suicide Squad, Tom and Jerry, Mortal Kombat, Dune, Space Jam: A New Legacy and Godzilla vs. Kong.
According to Warner Bros. officials “The hybrid model was created as a strategic response to the impact of the ongoing global pandemic.”
But what about Canada? Well since HBO Max is solely available in the U.S. things gets worse for Canadian streamers. In Canada, Crave TV has official content broadcasting rights of Warner Media films. But sadly unlike HBO Max, all new Warner Bros. films will not be available on Crave when it will be premier in Canadian Cinemas on 25th December. This means all the Warner Media films, including Wonder Woman 1984 will be broadcast on Crave after its Canadian theatrical run.
When asked how the shakeup to 2021’s Warner Bros. film slate will affect Crave, a Crave spokesperson sent the following statement:
“As with Wonder Woman 1984, Warner Bros. has decided that in the United States, these films will be released in both theatres and on HBO Max (for a limited period of time). The concurrent window on HBO Max is restricted solely to the United States. Warner Bros. is not making such a window available in any other territory, including Canada. While these movies will be released initially in theatres in Canada, they will be coming to Crave following their standard theatrical windows. Warner Bros. theatrical titles coming to Crave in 2021 include Tenet, The Witches, Wonder Woman 1984, The Little Things, and more. HBO Max Original Films – such as An American Pickle, Superintelligence, Charm City Kings and the upcoming Let Them All Talk — are all available on Crave, day-and-date with their U.S. premiere. A reminder that our HBO Max deal with Warner Bros includes HBO Max Original Programming produced by Warner Bros. Television Group. Warner Bros. theatrical titles that come to Crave in a Pay TV window are part of a separate deal. These are unchartered waters that we are all collectively navigating so that studios, theatres, and streaming services are able to continue to deliver these incredible movies to as many people as possible, for years to come.”
In a separate statement, a Warner Bros. spokesperson also confirmed that the company’s 2021 films will initially only release theatrically in Canada before eventually coming to Crave.
